At his installation in May, Archbishop Michael Jackels invited us all to say "Yes" to God's call in our life. We are God's people; we are the Church. What a privilege and responsibility that is!
Have you ever thought about serving our Parish community through a liturgical ministry? The door is open for you to serve in Music Ministry and various Liturgical Ministries. And guess what!? You can do more than one!
Scroll down to learn about the ministries that parishioners like YOU carry out. They each are extremely important and are what make each Mass run smoothly. You will also find a list of the committees that facilitate these ministries.
At the bottom there is a contact sheet for the Director of Music and Liturgy, Kristina Nienhaus, who is also one of your youth ministers! She can help you start serving the parish!
"I want to be a..."
Sacristan
So you've "graduated" from being a server, huh? Then it's time to think about being a Sacristan, or Eucharistic Minister! Sacristans do a lot of behind the scenes work, and their role is extremely important. As a sacristan you will set up the altar before Mass, and help tidy up afterwards. You'll be surprised at how much thought and supplies go into preparing each celebration of Mass.
Eucharistic Minister
Being a Eucharistic Minister is quite an honor, since you help share the very body and blood of Christ with your fellow parishioners. This ministry can extend into sharing Communion to those in care centers as well. Just think, you can share the greatest gift of all with others, Jesus' body and blood, and a smile by being a Eucharist Minister!
Hospitality Minister
A BIG part of what it means to be Catholic is to be welcoming. Numerous people within our parish work to create a welcoming atmosphere for parishioners and visitors. Making people feel that they belong is the main duty of hospitality ministers. In this ministry, you will greet people, hold doors for them, assist them to their seats if needed, ensure the safety of parishioners, and help make the church a comfortable and clean place to be.
Lector
Reading God's Word at Mass may be something that you've been interested in doing; if so, now is your time! Our parish is always ready to welcome new lectors, who proclaim the Good News from the ambo.
Cantor
Another way to proclaim the Good News is by being a Cantor. The Cantor rehearses with the organist, welcomes the assembly to Mass, introduces the songs, and welcomes all people to join in singing. As St. Augustine said, "To sing is to pray twice!"
Accompanist
Being a church accompanist can be a challenging yet rewarding duty. As an accompanist, you will gradually become confident in leading the assembly in music, and enjoy hearing the voices of those around you joining in song.
Choir Member
If you enjoy singing, or are more comfortable in a group setting, then consider joining St. Jude's Choir. We rehearse on Wednesday Nights at 7 p.m., and sing a variety of liturgical choral arrangements. Choir Members are welcoming, and enhance the worship for weekend masses, funerals, special masses, and holidays.
Youth Choir Member
A Youth Choir is a fun way to praise God in song in our Masses. Your Director of Music & Liturgy would like to start this choir this fall of 2013. Please contact Kristina with what voice part you are, and tell her what day of the week is best for rehearsals.
Faith Formation Classroom Aide
High school students can volunteer to help the teachers in Faith Formation classes as they share the ideas of faith with our elementary students. For more information contact Kari Hill.
